Welcome to Spot on SharePoint. Introduction to SharePoint online. Module 2, accessing SharePoint online from a laptop or desktop device. SharePoint online is available to you anywhere in the world at any time as long as you have an Internet connection. That means that regardless of where you are in the world, within your country, or within your city, you have access to the information, tools, and features of your SharePoint environment at your fingertips with a few simple steps.
Let me show you how. From your laptop or desktop device, open a web browser and go to office.com. Log in with a username and password, and then select SharePoint from the apps available. The SharePoint panel will show you sites you’re following, recent sites you have visited, news from sites you’re following, and if your organization has any frequent links or featured links that they’d like to have available to all users within the organization, you’ll see those there as well. In addition, the system might recommend for you sites that it thinks you’d be interested in based on your past behavior.
Let’s take a look. I’m going to open up a Google browser and type office.com in the URL field. This will bring me to the Microsoft 365 sign in page, And when I click sign in, I’ll be prompted to provide my username, which is typically your email address assigned by your organization. Once I hit next, I’ll enter my password. This is the same password I use to log in to my devices when I start work each day.
And I’m gonna stay signed in so that I don’t need to provide my password more frequently than necessary. This will bring me to the Microsoft 365 area, and if I click on the waffle in the top left hand corner, I can select SharePoint from my available apps. This opens the SharePoint apps panel, and you can see the various items that you’ve bookmarked, that you’ve favorited, or that you frequently visit, as well as sites suggested for you. In addition to that, you can actually search SharePoint for sites or content, and you’ll have your own bar on the left hand side where you can see all the sites that you’ve been frequently following. You can see news that’s recommended for you, files that you’ve recently used, lists that you’ve set as favorites.
That panel will follow you throughout the SharePoint environment so you can use it anytime. Thank you for taking the time to watch this video.
