Hello, and welcome to today’s tutorial on uploading documents to SharePoint online. In this video, we’ll show you three quick and easy ways to upload your files. Using the upload button, drag and drop from Outlook or Windows Explorer, and saving directly to SharePoint from an application like Word or Excel. Let’s get started. Our first method is uploading a single document using the upload button.
To do this, simply navigate to your document library in SharePoint. Once you’re there, click on the upload button located in the command bar at the top of the screen. Choose files if you want to upload an individual file or folder if you’re uploading an entire folder. I’ll select files and choose a document from my computer. After selecting your file, click open and SharePoint will upload it instantly.
Your document will now appear in the library, ready for you and your team to access. Note that our uploaded file is missing metadata. We can update that through the edit all button. Another video covers in detail how to add metadata to your documents. It is called editing or assigning metadata to documents.
Second method is even easier: drag and drop. You can drag files directly from your computer’s file explorer or from an email in Outlook. First, open your SharePoint document library. Next, locate the file on your computer or an attachment in an email. For this demonstration, I’ll drag a file from my desktop.
Click, hold, and drag the file to the SharePoint window. You can also drag and drop multiple files at once. And if you’re dragging from Outlook, you can drop email attachments straight into the document library for easy access. Our third method is saving directly from an application like Word, Excel or PowerPoint. Once you have finished creating your document, click on file in the top left corner, then choose save as.
Here you will see your pinned SharePoint libraries. Select the library that you want, name your file, and click on save. If we navigate to the library and refresh the screen, we will see the file is now saved to sharepoint making it accessible for everyone in your team. If you don’t see the library that you need under quick access, it is very easy to add it. Simply navigate to the library in sharepoint and click on the pin to quick access button.
You now know three simple ways to upload documents to sharepoint online. Whether you’re using the upload button, dragging and dropping files, or saving directly from an application, SharePoint makes it easy to keep all your documents organized and accessible. Thanks for watching.
