Types of Sites

Welcome to Spot on SharePoint, introduction to SharePoint Online. Module 4, types of sites. In SharePoint Online, there are several different types of sites in your environment. Hub sites are designated from standard site templates, and they connect several sites together, control branding, allow to search across connected sites, and provide global navigation for all connected sites. Communication sites are optimized to share information and have a visually rich navigation and a modern layout They are never connected to 0365 groups or to Microsoft Teams Team sites are optimized for collaboration and are connected to 0 365 groups and features with a more traditional layout.

And, optionally, these sites can be connected to a Microsoft Team. When connected to a team, it will store the files shared in that team’s channels. Let’s take a look at some examples. This is a communication site with its navigation across the top, visually rich navigation and wide screen, and you can see that it’s connected to the sandbox hub with global navigation across the top of the site. Now let’s take a look at a team site.

Team sites have their navigation on the left hand side rather than across the top, and we’ll show you if they are a private or public group for their 0365 components. In this case, this site is also connected to a Microsoft Teams channel.
