GetCheckedOnline Web Application

Background and History

The British Columbia Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) is the provincial public health service providing surveillance, detection, prevention, treatment, policy development, and health promotion programming to promote and protect the health of British Columbians. BCCDC combines public health practice with research and policy advice. They are the provincial reporting centre for reportable diseases.

The Problem

BCCDC was looking for a way to allow the public to get tested for sexually transmitted infections using confidential online tools.

Their challenges were:

  • A very high level of security was required for the health data.
  • The process had to be confidential for the patients.
  • Needed notifications for test results.

Our Solution

Spot Solutions developed a web-based application that provides information and online Sexually Transmitted Infection (“STI”) testing to the public. Dealing with highly sensitive and confidential health data, this application incorporated the highest levels of security. Based on a SharePoint 2010 platform, the GetCheckedOnline application includes a public informational website (https://getcheckedonline.com), a web application for registered clients and an administrative application that controls the logic used on the site and manages test results and notifications. This software application required enterprise-quality security and scalability. It passed audits for security, including formal penetration testing, and audits for adherence to client coding and technical standards.

The Impact

BCCDC how has a secure way to provide the public with confidential STI testing and test results online.
